I am excited to announce that we are planning on restoring the Kentwood Citizen Police Academy to a revised program, beginning in September, 2008. We are going to reduce it to 6 weeks, instead of the previous 9 week format. It has been missed by citizens, officers and me. I believe it to be an important tool to educate our community about law enforcement activities and issues. Our Fire Department just successfully completed its first Citizen Fire Academy. With all the critical decisions facing communities and citizens regarding government services, it is important we give them an opportunity to learn about law enforcement services. -- Richard A. Who we areThe Kentwood Citizens Academy Alumni is comprised of the classes that have graduated from the Kentwood Police Department's Citizens Academy program. While the program is no longer offered due to budget cuts, it offered Kentwood citizens a unique 27-hour program consisting of classroom and "hands-on" instruction about the criminal justice system and the role and operations of the Kentwood Police Department. The program was offered twice each year and met for three hours one night each week for nine consecutive weeks. The program objectives were:
